In 1994, by the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation on June 12 - the Day of the Declaration on State Sovereignty - was declared a state holiday of Russia. The official name «Russia Day» was fixed for the holiday in 2002, after the adoption of the new Labor Code of the Russian Federation.
On Russia Day large-scale celebrations are held across the country: in large cities citizens go to parades, there are festive events, concerts and many other events.
The office of Rossotrudnichestvo in the Republic of Cyprus organizes thematic exhibitions, concerts, lectures and round tables, creative festivals dedicated to that holiday. The events are usually visited not only by compatriots and graduates of Soviet or Russian universities, but also by all people who are interested in Russia, its history and culture.
